Yasmin - House 9
Yasmin Jocasta Pereira do Prado was born May 05, 2000. She is one of 7 brothers and sisters, three of whom were sent to COL. The father is locked up in a psychological ward for criminal offenders and the mother has lost parental rights as she does not take care of the children and is always drunk.
The mother is also involved in drugs and lately had to quickly leave the neighbourhood as drug dealers were after her and threatening her life. The mother and the oldest daughter have also been involved in prostitution and the oldest daughter instigates the others to steal and cause trouble.
Yasmin was right at home as soon as she arrived at COL. The three sisters will be kept together in the 4th home where Joel and Jaqueline are house parents. We have some of her documentation but are awaiting the rest through the court system. Her other brothers and sisters have been given to other families. The three that are with us were with the grandmother but she has no conditions to raise them, especially with the mother coming and going and interfering in their lives. Please pray that now that as Yasmin is exposed to the Gospel for the first time, she will open her heart to Jesus eventually.
2008 Update: Yasmin is seven years old and in grade two. She loves to read. Her work at home is to wash the breakfast dishes. She smiles a lot and is obedient. She is the youngest of the children and would like to be able to do some of the things that the older children can do. In her spare time she likes to play with dolls and skip rope. Yasmin is growing well in her spiritual life. She loves to read and understands what is being taught. She is active in Sunday School and Girls’ Club and has already accepted the Lord into her life.
Please join us in praising God for her sweet spirit and obedience and pray that she will continue in her spiritual maturity.
2009 Update: Yasmin got good grades in most subjects on her report card this year but does find Math to be a challenge. She is adapting well to her new Chain of Love family. She requests prayer for her biological family, especially her father.
