Vanessa Jaqueline - House 9
Vanessa Jaqueline Pereira do Prado was born August 09, 1994. She is one of 7 brothers and sisters, three of whom were sent to COL. The father is locked up in a psychological ward for criminal offenders and the mother has lost parental rights as she does not take care of the children and is always drunk.
The mother is also involved in drugs and lately had to quickly leave the neighbourhood as drug dealers were after her and threatening her life. The mother and the oldest daughter have also been involved in prostitution and the oldest daughter instigates the others to steal and cause trouble.
Vanessa had trouble adapting to COL. Upon arrival she did not want to get out of the social worker’s car. She left new found friends behind. Once in the house she made her younger sisters unpack her belongings. She has a very strong personality and will have to be treated by our psychologist. The three sisters will be kept together in the 4th home where Joel and Jaqueline are house parents. We have some of her documentation but are awaiting the rest through the court system.
Her other brothers and sisters have been given to other families. The three that are with us were with the grandmother but she has no conditions to raise them, especially with the mother coming and going and interfering in their lives. Pray that as Vanessa is now exposed to the Gospel for the first time, she will eventually invite Jesus into her heart.
2008 Update: Vanessa Jaqueline is thirteen years old and in grade six. Her job at home is to hang out the laundry. In her spare time she loves to read. She is a sweet, calm girl, generally obedient but sometimes stubborn. She has grown a lot spiritually, has accepted the Lord and also been baptized. She was quite rebellious in the past but that seems to be disappearing. She is active in Sunday School, Adolescents’ Group and Girls’ Club at church and reads the Bible.
Please pray that Vanessa Jaqueline would continue to grow in all areas of her life.
2009 Update: Vanessa Jaqueline got a very good mark in English on her report card this year. She has been having problems with her Religion teacher at school over a disagreement they had. She asks you for prayer for her biological family, and also that she would develop strong, positive friendships with people at her school and at Chain of Love.
