Sara - House 1
Sara came to us because she already had a younger brother with us and the girl’s home, where she was, does not keep the girls over the weekend. Seeing that no one took care of her over the weekend, they asked us to take her in.
Sara’s background is the same as her brother’s. Her father is also her grandfather. This is a case of incest. The mother is mentally ill and has rejected the kids. When Sara’s brother came to us, an aunt wanted to keep Sara. This aunt is a madame of a local brothel. We prayed for her knowing what kind of environment she was in. This aunt ended up rejecting the girl. Now she is with us.
Sara is petite and has very thick glasses. We just had her eyes checked as we need to get new glasses for her. One eye measures 23 and the other 12. In spite of this handy cap she is mild tempered and is a stabilizing influence in the life of her brother. We are now looking to see if some surgery can be done to help her vision.
Sara is now 14 years old. She is in grade 6 and works very hard despite her learning difficulties. She is also taking a beginners English course at the technical center. She has a caring personality and enjoys playing basketball. Pray that the Lord will help her grow spiritually and also physically into a godly young woman.
Update: Sara has been tested for genetic irregularities. She is normal. Recently she has asked for prayer for her biological mother. This is a good sign since she has had a deep resentment for her over the years.
January 2007 Update: Sara Chaves is 15 years old and in the eighth grade. She has made a decision for Christ and is baptized. Sara has changed remarkably. At the homes she is involved in the computer, cross stitch, culinary, crafts and choreography course. At church Sara is involved in drama as well as the adolescent group. She enjoys going to camp. Sara has shown great skills in the kitchen and has a sweet disposition at home.
Main Prayer Request: We ask you to pray for her vision. She is practically blind and has had problems adapting to her contacts and glasses. She constantly prays for God to heal her – please join us.
2008 Update: Sara is seventeen years old and in grade nine. In spite of very bad eyesight she loves to write and draw. Her work at home is to clean the bathrooms and hang the laundry on the line. She is a very loving girl but is sometimes upset because her biological mother does not come to see her. She is growing well in her spiritual life and has both accepted Christ and been baptized. She is active in Sunday School and the adolescents’ group at church. Please join in prayer with Sara that her eyesight would improve.
2009 Update: Sara has succeeded in finding employment in a local clothing store. She enjoys the work and has made many friends there. At school math and physics are proving to be a big challenge this year. Please pray for Sara as her eyesight continues to deteriorate. She is very busy and finds it difficult to find time for both work and study. She also requests prayer for a special friend and that she would make good choices for her future.
