Carlos - Boys Youth Home

Carlos came to us with only the clothes on his back, no socks, and a pair of tennis shoes that were wide open on the sides. Someone had shaved his hair recently. This is the cheapest way of taking care of lice.

Carlos really enjoys the home he is in. He along with his brother have been placed with our fifth couple, Tadeu and Deny. They have three boys of their own so get along well together. After only a few days, they all came asking us for a ladder. There were two soccer balls stuck on the roof. We may have to leave the ladder with them. They are full of energy. Carlos has more energy than the others. After the first day he managed to bang his head and take 2 stitches.

When we take in children, one of the first things we do is fit them with clothes from our donated stock. To keep them quiet, we let them rummage through the toy box to chose their own toys. The house mother, Deny, has her work cut out for her. Pray for Carlos and his exposure to God’s word. From what we can gather, this was something new to him.

Carlos is now 14 years old and is very small for his age. He like to run around without shoes and with his hat on sideways. He plays a lot of soccer and many other kid games. He has difficulty with his school work and doesn’t like to take the time to do it. He knows he needs to sit still in school but just doesn’t know how to do that. He is now in the 5th grade. He is taking a basic computer course offered at our technical center. He is also enjoying flute lessons. He and his class were featured on TV recently.

January 2007 Update: Carlos is 15 and in 7th grade. He has made a decision for Christ and is baptized. Carlos is involved in a music school and plays the trumpet. He goes to a course that exposes the adolescents to various careers. He is the best sales person and sells the snacks after the church services to raise funds for different church group activities. He can wheel and deal and is great at P.R. He plays on the church’s baseball team and goes to boys’ brigade and adolescents meetings. At home he is very helpful and very responsible. When he has a goal he goes for it and gets it.

Main Prayer Request: for his frustrations with his trumpet learning and math.

2008 Update: Carlos is sixteen years old and in grade seven. He washes the dishes at home and has a part time job at a shoe factory. He would like to go to a school for higher education. He is a good, loving boy who is always helpful and likes to look neat and tidy. He enjoys music, loves to play the drums in his spare time and has also learned to play the flute.
Carlos is growing well in his spiritual life and has changed a lot in his behaviour. He attends the adolescents’ group at church and is also involved in a small group of boys who meet for Bible Study. He has accepted the Lord and been baptized.
Please pray that the Lord will bless him as he gets older and needs to find work.

2009 Update: Carlos is working very hard at his new job. It is going well but he would like to find a higher paying job if possible. He has applied to work for a city bus company as a money collector, and would also like to get his driver’s licence in the near future. Please pray that he would be willing to stand up for what it right and not compromise.
